The society was founded in December 1970 in response to the lack of a forum for the discussion of archival matters in Ireland.
Its first meeting was held in the Physics Theatre, UCD, Earlsfort Terrace and those present elected Professor Robert Dudley Edwards as its first chair.
It published the Irish Archives Bulletin which later grew into Irish Archives, which remains Ireland's only dedicated archives journal.
Our 2015 spring lecture takes place on April 7th at 6.30 at Dublin City Library and Archive on Pearse Street. Dr Tríona O'Hanlon will discuss the history of the Hibernian Catch Club, one of Dublin’s oldest music societies established in c.1680.
The lecture will be preceeded by a wine reception and our AGM. All are welcome.
